NCPP Bournemouth University

Kate Howe

Senior Lecturer

The key theme that underpins Kate’s teaching and research concerns how people can work at their best in relationship with other. She believes that the emotional and relational dimension is at the heart of all social work and leadership practice.

Her aim is to encourage professionals to explore and develop their ‘emotional intelligence’ within the work context, with the goal of improving the quality of service offered in health and social care.

Currently Kate leads units on supervision, as well other units focusing on leading and enabling others and developing critical reflective practice. She is also the programme leader for a social work CPD programme and has previously led the University social work qualifying programme.

Kate is a qualified master practitioner in neuro-linguistic programming and a qualified coach. Her previous work experience includes leading and managing in a national charity, as well as social work training officer with a London borough.

Kate has co-authored a book on supervision and leadership as well as other books and chapters on working and studying in social work.

One of Kate’s hobbies is also working in partnership with a local charity called Hurting to Healing.
